Title: Defending Against BOTS — Is Termination Required?
Abstract: We live in a world where Amazon Alexa can order you a pizza, mobile devices and tablets dominate the market and we each have several devices we carry with us everyday. And… it’s easier than ever to rent your own BOT to buy out an exclusive shoe release so you can re-sell them for triple the price on EBay the following day… Wait… (Did he just say that?) Yes. Yes I did! BOT traffic makes up 60%-90% of most traffic that hits the average eCommerce site. So why should we be surprised that automated techniques are being used so heavily? How did we get here, what is it about our own development and security practices that may have lead to this point? In this talk I’ll be going over some of the latest attacker techniques, and tactics used to hit some of the worlds largest corporations using automated scanning techniques. I’ll also detail how API’s are most commonly the entry point of choice for attackers to aim their ATO, PLA, and any Credential Abuse related activities against since they’re usually left unmonitored and unprotected.
